INTRODUCTION

The Australian Government allocates funding and resources to shared across all the multicultural communities. The greater the number of people who identify as Serbian means the greater amount of funding our Serbian community will receive.

The correct identification of ones Country of Birth (16), Your Ancestors (18, 19 & 22), The Language Spoken (20) & Religion (23) is very important when being entered on the Australian Census to be held on 11th August 2026 (2026 ABS Census Questions)

  • Diplomatic & Consular Support Services
  • Centrelink Support Staff & Translation of Materials

  • HSC/VCE/Year 11 & 12 Serbian Language Classes
  • Multicultural Grants
  • School Grants
  • Community Grants
  • Extra Staff for Community Engagement
  • SBS TV & Radio
  • and so much more

So if you feel like you are part of the Serbian Community in Australia, please ensure on 11th August 2026 on Census night you and all the members of your household all identify your place of birth & ancestry as SERBIA (Questions 16, 18 & 19), SERBIAN (Questions 20 & 22) and SERBIAN ORTHODOX (Question 23) so together we can ensure that we support our families and our community into the next decade.

STEP 1

Visit www.census.abs.gov.au and click on Start the Census

Select Start your Census or Get a Census number.

If you already have a Census number and temporary password from the letter or paper form delivered to your household, then select the first option.

If you don’t have one, request a Census number instead and follow the steps.

STEP 2

For Question 16, mark the country you were born in or if you were born in the former Yugoslavia, enter SERBIA in the Other (please specify) section.

STEP 3

For Questions 18 & 19, if your parents were born in the former Yugoslavia, enter SERBIA in the Other (please specify) section.

For Question 20, enter SERBIAN in the Yes, other language (please specify) section.

STEP 4

For Question 22, enter SERBIAN in the Other ancestry 1 (please specify) section.

STEP 5

For Question 23, enter SERBIAN ORTHODOX in the Other (please specify) section.

STEP 6

Complete the rest of the form and Submit.
